Supported Employment
|
Find A Job and Job Training
|
|
It has been said that a component of a person's identity
is their occupation. "What do you do?" is most often asked
upon introduction to new people.
The Supported Employment Program at First Step finds jobs
for individuals who have developmental disabilities. We
also provide continuous follow-up to ensure job
satisfaction for both the employer and employee.
First Step will provide a job coach to help the employee
learn good work habits and job skills. When the coach is
no longer needed, we will begin Vocational Maintenance.
This involves monthly visits to the place of employment
and focuses on work progress and improvement techniques
that will instill a sense of pride in doing "an honest
day's work for an honest day's pay." Persons who might
never have participated in such real life experiences will
have an opportunity to perform "real" jobs for "real" pay.
It has been proven that the persons we train have a better
than average chance for job success, and their employers
gain reliable, dependable and hard-working employees. We
feel that an inherent quality in all people is the desire
to have a purpose in this life. Our Supported Employment
Program helps certain individuals succeed in finding a
purpose that fulfills that need.
