Children Unable to Attend Public School
School-Age Program at First Step
For some children, public school just isn’t an option because of physical, emotional, or medical disabilities. If that’s the case for your child, you know that doesn’t mean learning must remain out of the question. That’s why we have the School Age program at First Step.
At First Step, our caring, certified Special Education teachers and their assistants are committed to teaching school-age youth a wide range of things they need to know, from fundamental tasks, such as dressing and feeding themselves, placing an order at a restaurant, and shopping at Wal-Mart, to more creative endeavors. We teach our students all the skills they need to be able to function at the best of their abilities, as independently as possible.
To ensure your child’s ongoing development, we continuously assess progress and let you know when we believe the time is right to consider allowing him or her to join peers in public schools.
For more information, contact the First Step location closest to where you live.

For Children Unable to Attend Public School
Our program for school-age children is designed to serve those who need special focus whether their needs are physical, emotional or medical. We teach a very determined group of young people some of the fundamental tasks of youth: dressing and feeding themselves, placing an order at a restaurant and shopping at Wal-Mart. We teach all the independent skills that enable them to function to the best of their abilities.
Our certified Special Education teachers and their assistants have the commitment and patience to work with every child to bring about the highest levels of independence in their students. We assess continuously for our students’ progress, and when the time is right they join their peers in public schools.
